That was definitely a busy and tiring few days.

Saturday was supposed to be a quiet day as we knew once we set of to L&T’s we wouldn’t get much rest. It didn’t happen that way though. The morning was spent searching for the photo album’s mum had lent us (me aged 0-4), and the afternoon was packing and Mr H fixing up his bike to take up so he could go out with T yesterday. We didn’t get to bed until 11:30. Not nice when we were up at 5:30!

The munchkin slept on until 6 but woke for the potty and with us up wouldn’t go back to sleep. We managed to get the car packed and us all breakfasted reay to leave at 7. For what I think is the first time ever we didn’t have any delays or slow sections of the motorway to contend with. We were up at L&T’s just before 10. We had time for a cuppa and for Mr H and the munchkin to change before we all headed off to the church. The service was lovely, though I spent most of it following the munchkin around the church and taking her out to use the potty! Back at L&T’s L put on a fantastic spread. Salads, bread, meat, hot nibbles, dips, gorgeous cakes and biscuits. It was great to see the family, only one of my uncles and a couple of my male cousins were missing. Sadly the weather, while dry most of the day, was quite grey. We did sit outside under the gazebos as it was fairly warm, but we did need jackets by about 5. The munchkin loved running around the garden and trying to play with baby J. She did manage to get her foot soaked in the pond. Thankfully she didn’t get any further! Most people left by about 6. We put the munchkin and baby J in the bath together and then put the munchkin down to sleep in L&T’s bed.

That was not our best plan. We though she’d sleep well there and then when we got her up to move her to the hotel she’d settle well again there….but no! She settled to sleep fine, we got her into the car at about 9:30 without too much fuss but when we got to the hotel….oh dear… Even though they knew there were three of us in the room the single bed hadn’t been made. So off we go, get the sheets out of the wardrobe, make the bed. All the while the munchkin is wandering round waking up more and more. We get the bed made and get her settled down. Mr H and I go and sit in the en suite to try and give the munchkin some peace and quiet to go to sleep in. 15 mins later I admit defeat and go into the room to go to bed. The munchkin’s still not asleep, it’s now 11pm. She clambers in with us for a hug. Mr H complains about the mattress on his side of the bed. The munchkin is almost asleep in the double bed. Mr H gets into the single, he’s comfy, then he decides he wants to share the bed with me. Due to him needing a decent night’s sleep since he’ll have to drive home the next day we swap sides of the bed and put the munchkin back into the single. I can understand why he didn’t want to sleep on ‘his’ side of the bed, it was awful! We all eventually got to sleep at arond midnight. Mr H was awake and reading just after 7, I woke then as well as he was using his torch and facing me. The munchkin managed to sleep until just after 8. We had a leisurely get up, we put a dvd on the laptop to keep the munchkin entertained and relaxed a bit more.

We made it to L&T’s for a late breakfast before Mr H and T packed their mountain bikes into the car and headed off for some boy time. I sat and played with baby J and the munchkin (and was reminded how hard it is to butter bread while carrying a wriggly 6 month old) until L returned from shopping for more food for the afternoon’s BBQ. T was in charge of the BBQ as L had sorted the family party on Sunday. By 12:30 L was getting very stressed as the boys hadn’t returned and T still needed to clean the BBQ. The boys returned tired and sweaty at 1 with enough time left for showers and BBQ cleaning before the party started at 2. This was a party for all their friends as they wanted to celebrate J’s christening with them as well and there wasn’t space for everyone on Sunday. There were lots of little people and lots of bumps. At one point I was the only woman out of the 5 outside not sporting a bump! I was a little jealous but I know our time will come againa t some point. Most of L’s friends from her NCT group came along. All the babies are 5/6 months old. One of them is 5 1/2 months and weighs 20 lbs! The munchkin only weighs 24 lbs and she was 2 1/2 last week…

People trickled in and out as the afternoon went on. The last ones left at about 6:30, which left Mr H, the munchkin and I. We left at 7 (hoping to miss the worst of the bank holiday traffic returning to the London area), with a parting gift of lots of biscuits (L&T had a lot of left over food yesterday). Amazingly the return journey was as clear as the journey up and we were home by 10. The munchkin slept for the first 2 1/2 hours and went straight to bed when we got home, not waking until after 7 today.

It was a fantastic weekend. L and I got on better than we often do, which was lovely. It was great to see my parents again. They’d been staying with L&T for part of last week so left yesterday morning. Dad is now suffering with facial paralysis (it developed as the drove down to L&T’s). The doctor in L’s village thinks it is Bell’s Palsy though Mum thinks it may be another stroke. He’s been given steriods to take, but he’s not really wanting to take more medication, Mum has a hard time reminding him to take his cholesterol and blood pressure tablets everyday. It wasn’t as noticeable as Mum and L had lead me to believe (they said his face was quite droopy) until Dad blinked when only one eye closed. He was even more subdued and just sat quietly with my gran, his brother, nephew and niece for most of the party on Sunday. He’s lost so much confidence over the past year. It’s not nice seeing him like this, and knowing he’s not going to get better, only worse. It’s just something we have to live with now.

We did eat a lot over the weekend, but my hard work on the diet last week definitely paid off, I lost 1/2lb this week! I just need to keep the momentum going now.

Just a quick follow up to a couple of comments:

Junior Docspot – this is the first time we’re replacing a car without Mr H having written it off! In the past we’ve had so little money that we either bought from family (bad idea – my sister is rather hard on cars!) or sent Dad to a car auction saying to get what he could for a certain amount of money (being in Yorkshire compared to us in Cambridge he could get a lot more for the money). Both times we needed a car either due to work for one of us or the impending arrival of the munchkin!

Mumof4 – love the German language idea! Thanks! I thought the car needed a link as no one (me included) I’d spoken to had heard of the Yaris Verso before…glad it helped someone.

I’m plodding on here. Having a really can’t be bothered week, I’m struggling to get the motivation to do anything other than eat junk (am being fairly good still…) and watch trashy telly. I’m not sure where it’s come from, whether it’s a virus, a return of a bit of depression or something else… I’m just hoping it lifts soon! Mr H is a bit similar, though some of his is definitely down to working very hard and not getting chance to go out in the fresh air to do some exercise. Neither of us are sleeping very well which is never good as we just make each other worse, but hopefully that’ll stop soon. Anyway, thanks to the general crapness I’m feeling the dining room isn’t looking too great, though the breakfast bar is almost clear and the search for the MOT certificate for the Mondeo has meant that the desk in the dining room is clearer than it’s been for months too!

Firstly…grrr…… internet explorer just crashed as I was finishing writing my post…I hadn’t thought to save a draft either….grrr! Oh and apologies for the lack of imagination in the title of this post…apparently my brain isn’t coming up with anything today!

Right then…where was I…

The munchkin actually slept for 1 1/2 hours yesterday afternoon. I put her back in her cot at 3:30 since she was too tired to do anything other than flop on my shoulder. She went straight to sleep and I had to wake her otherwise she wouldn’t have slept properly last night. She slept until 9:15 (when I woke her) this morning as well. She did wake briefly in the night, but after I changed a very wet nappy she went straight back to sleep. She’s so much happier today fro having got more sleep. She’s been happy to play in her room while I did the housework upstairs and then read/play with stickers/draw the the dining room table while I’ve done the downstairs housework. I’ve almost finished everything today, whereas yesterday I had to abandon a lot as she needed too much TLC.

I had a bit of a breakthrough with Mr H as well yesterday. He’s always told me he doesn’t like risotto (it’s too stodgy, samey and he doesn’t like it when the rice is a bit crunchy). However last night he came home from work very tired and drained so I suggested a risotto as easy to eat comfort food and he agreed to try it. He actually liked it! I made a chicken and mushroom risotto (we had chicken that needed eating and I thought I’d chance the mushrooms – he says he doesn’t like them either!). It suits me that he’ll eat risotto now, I love it and it fits in very nicely with my Slimming World diet. I think I’m going to try a butternut squash risotto next (maybe just for me while he’s away). Does any one know a nice recipe for that?

Right then, I’m off to cook some lunch and then hopefully have time to read a few blogs (and hopefully comment – you never know!) afterwards.

…of no naps and we have one very tired little lady and a mummy who just wants some down time to get stuff done!

The munchkin is currently sitting in her cot chatting to herself and her cuddly giraffes, she’s showing absolutely no sign of being willing to go to sleep. I was really hoping for another 5/6 months of day time sleeps, but now I’m not sure whether that’ll happen. She’s dropped naps for two consecutive days before, but always gone back to her usual 2 or 3 hours afterwards. I just don’t know what to do to help her sleep. She definitely needs it (and so do I), she’s just fighting it all the way. I’ve tried moving her cot so she can no longer empty her drawers (so annoying!), so maybe today she’s just a bit unsettled by the change….I hope that’s it.

Anyway, she’s starting to get grumpy so I’m off to get her, and then attempt to get the rest of the housework done with a tired monkey clinging to me….could be fun!

‘That’ being the sudden motivation yesterday to clean the kitchen.

It’s not been as clean since we moved in. Floor, cupboard fronts, surfaces, hob and sink all got a thorough clean. But why? I have no idea. I even carried on and cleaned the dining room floor too.

I know my New Year’s resolution was to keep the house tidier, but I didn’t have a lot of energy yesterday, Mr H and I had stayed up late talking (well after 1am) and then we were woken by his alarm at 7. Neither of us had much motivation, though he got masses of work done. The atmosphere at work still isn’t great so that combined with the risk of snow (where we live, the whole area grinds to a halt with less than 2cm snow) meant he decided to work from home yesterday. He worked almost solidly from 9-5:30 with just half an hour for lunch and the occasional hug from either me or the munchkin. He felt so much better about it afterwards. His boss was impressed with what he’d sorted out too. He’s back in work today, though he didn’t leave here till 9:10! He had been planning to get in by 8:30 but didn’t get up very promptly at all today, thankfully he has no meetings until this afternoon.

I’ve not had as much motivation this morning, though that may be partly due to the fact that I didn’t get up till 9 and the munchkin didn’t wake until I woke her at 9:15! Not quite sure why that happened with her, but I’m not complaining, I feel better for a long night’s sleep.

I need to get myself going properly again now though, we’re out most of the afternoon at toddler group and then going shopping so I need to get on with moer fo the housework…the washing is calling me! Bye!

Just a quick one from me today. We’ve struggled all weekend so I need to get housework etc back on track today, Just to add to the problems Mr H has a throat infection so is coughing through the night keeping me awake….just what I need! His sickness record isn’t great anyway so we’re desperately trying to keep him in work as long as possible, he’s taken vast quantities of strepsils to work today to try and help him. Anyway, I’m shattered as a result and that wasn’t helped by the munchkin waking me at 6:20 because she’d dropped her Upsy Daisy out of her cot, I know that some people have little ones that frequently get them up at this time, but the munchkin is usually happy in her cot until 7:30 or later, I think it’s due to her having (possibly) Mr H’s bug, she had a temperature of 39.9 (104) last night!

Mr H spent most of the weekend working on his CV stuff, he’s got a lot of information to go through before he can work out what he needs on there and what’s not relevant. He’s getting there, hopefully by the weekend he’ll be in a position to apply for new jobs.

My little nephew is home! They’re all very tired (not surprisingly) but he’d doing well. Thanks for all the prayers/thoughts last week. My sister posted some photos on her Facebook account, and he’s gorgeous. Mr H’s job search depending, we’re going to go and see them on Sunday.

Right, going to go and try and get the house tidy again and then try and get some rest when the munchkin naps. Bye!

A bullet pointed post for today as I want to peruse my blog roll as well as needing to pack to go to my parent’s tomorrow (until Thursday).

  • Camping was very hit and miss
  • The site manager didn’t check names as people turned up
  • The boss didn’t always record bookings in the diary
  • Because we arrived relatively late we were left without a pitch and were left with a small space by the front gate
  • Under a light sensitive flood light
  • Despite being listed in the diary
  • Site manager was sweet once he’d got over his anger at his boss for putting him in this position
  • The munchkin refused to settle to sleep the first night
  • She screamed so much she was sick all over her travel cot
  • She ended up sleeping in our bed, we slept very little
  • She left like a log in her own cot the second night
  • We had a lovely day in Cambridge shopping for a rucksack for me for this coming weekend
  • We got sunburnt as I forgot the sunscreen and my hat (thankfully the munchkin was ok, I’d remembered her hat and Mr H’s hat)
  • We had a lovely lunch with a friend from the church we went to there
  • She’s lost 5 1/2 stone (77 lbs) since January and looks great
  • I’m feeling a tiny bit more inspired with my diet
  • We also spent £70 on Sabatier knives and a knife block in TK Maxx (rrp £230!)
  • They’re fab, but we’re skint anyway
  • The munchkin loved the ducks on the river in Ely (where we went on Sunday), she was pulling herself as close to the fence as possible (she was in her pushchair) so she could see them better.
  • She said wack, wack (quack, quack) a lot and used the hand movement to go with it
  • She’s gone a little bit duck mad at the moment
  • I had to go and see the dermatologist yesterday
  • I think I’m confusing the doctors a bit
  • The doctor who spoke to me first had to get the consultant himself to talk to me
  • Even though the prick test for latex was negative he’s running blood tests and wants to tape a latex glove to my back to 48 hours
  • That’ll be fun…..not
  • Within an hour I was itchy from the tape put on my arm where the blood was taken
  • The biggest problem is not the latex reaction (though that makes buying certain things a hell of a lot more expensive….), but my reaction to adhesives (even hypoallergenic ones)
  • 48 hours with tape on my back could be awful (though I’m trying not to think like that
  • The consultant also looked at my face (I think around my eyes) and the lines on my hand and said that I’m someone who’s prone to allergies (?!? – has anyone else heard of this?)
  • He looked at the munchkin and said that she will be too
  • Thanks… I don’t worry enough about her at times
  • He did say that despite my allergies and Mr H’s asthma we should be ok to try the munchkin with peanuts now
  • We have a huge amount of sorting to go in the house over the next couple of weeks
  • The munchkin’s God-mother R is coming to stay here for a while
  • She’s left her job (fantastic)
  • She’s not got one to go to (not good)
  • She won’t be able to afford the rent on her place in a month or so
  • So to enable her to stay near here where her  church and many friends are we have offered her our spare room
  • Which is full of junk
  • The bed is covered with paperwork for filing
  • Oh dear
  • Mr H is going to take a couple of days off work to get it sorted
  • R may have to sleep on the living room floor for a couple of nights
  • But the tidying is going to have to wait
  • I need to spend today packing my rucksack, sorting washing and dishwasher and browsing some of my blogroll (for my sanity)
  • Tidying begins in earnest next week

Well, that was a flying visit though my week, until next week (hopefully!), goodbye!
