No sooner to I start to get over the cold I’ve had, and the munchkin begin to perk up from the cold she’s had, we get to last night and find that Mr H has yet another bug. This time a bit of a tummy one. It’s just been one thing after another with him. He’s not been properly well since February, he’s been fighting off the cold I’ve just had for the last 2 1/2 weeks and now this. He wasn’t helped by a long day at work on Tuesday, a meeting scheduled to last from 3-3:30 went on until 6:30 and it was at the office over 2 hours from home, on the other side of London. He worked from home yesterday (a bit less pressure than the office and a slave to make meals and drinks!) but was shattered anyway by 5.

Roll on nice summer weather. I’m sure that being able to spend more time out in the sunshine will help us all. I know that when Mr H can go out for regular rides on his bikes he feels a lot better (as long as he doesn’t fall off – last week’s trick while fording a river on his first ride in 7/8 weeks). We’ll be able to take the bikes away with us more easily now as well. The new car has mounting points inside it so that we can strap the bikes inside the car and they’ll be secure without us needing to surround them with bags etc. Hopefully that’ll encourage us to go riding as a family more as well, I can count on 2 hands the number of times we have used the trailer we bought for the munchkin in August 2006! I know that riding more will definitely do me good, the only real exercise I get is the fitness class on a Wednesday (which I couldn’t even go to yesterday thanks to the cold).

I was quite grateful that Mr H was home yesterday. As I was cooking lunch the munchkin grabbed some papers from the dining table and in the process managed to tip a full glass of squash over my new laptop! I was not impressed, and nor was Mr H when the juice spread over the table and also got his work laptop and phone. Thankfully Mr H was able to dry out the laptops (though my TV card is still out and drying). The fact that the battery was low and turned itself off just after the soaking did not help my worry. All seems fine now but I guess we’ll see over the next couple of days.

On another note, maybe while Mr H is home today we’ll manage to narrow down where we want to go camping in June (and confirm the date, church commitments are proving difficult to work around). So far the criteria includes decent showers/toilets (my request), fairly near good mountain bike trails (his request) and nice countryside nearby (for both of us). Does anyone know of any good campsites or have any suggestions of areas to go to? I know it’s a bit of a long shot, but hey, I can’t lose anything! We’re not really bothered where we go at the moment, though the North of Scotland is a bit too far this time!

Well, that’s the end of my slightly muddled catch up for today, time to go and get some housework done! Bye!

Just a quick follow up to a couple of comments:

Junior Docspot – this is the first time we’re replacing a car without Mr H having written it off! In the past we’ve had so little money that we either bought from family (bad idea – my sister is rather hard on cars!) or sent Dad to a car auction saying to get what he could for a certain amount of money (being in Yorkshire compared to us in Cambridge he could get a lot more for the money). Both times we needed a car either due to work for one of us or the impending arrival of the munchkin!

Mumof4 – love the German language idea! Thanks! I thought the car needed a link as no one (me included) I’d spoken to had heard of the Yaris Verso before…glad it helped someone.

I’m plodding on here. Having a really can’t be bothered week, I’m struggling to get the motivation to do anything other than eat junk (am being fairly good still…) and watch trashy telly. I’m not sure where it’s come from, whether it’s a virus, a return of a bit of depression or something else… I’m just hoping it lifts soon! Mr H is a bit similar, though some of his is definitely down to working very hard and not getting chance to go out in the fresh air to do some exercise. Neither of us are sleeping very well which is never good as we just make each other worse, but hopefully that’ll stop soon. Anyway, thanks to the general crapness I’m feeling the dining room isn’t looking too great, though the breakfast bar is almost clear and the search for the MOT certificate for the Mondeo has meant that the desk in the dining room is clearer than it’s been for months too!

Hello! I hope you’ve all had a good holiday weekend.

We’ve had a very quiet weekend, Mr H came home from work on Thursday with a virus and has been rather low all weekend, though we have been out somewhere each day (if only to buy a toilet seat for the munchkin!). It’s not been the nice family weekend I had planned. Oh well, as long as Mr H gets better, at least we’re going away for a few days this week (a couple of nights with my lovely friend V and her husband – I know she reads this so hello!). Hopefully that’ll give us a few days of nice family time.

We got up yesterday morning to snow fall which settled! The first snow of the year arrived on Saturday, but didn’t settle, however yesterday it did! We arrived at church in the morning with the munchkin bundled up in wellies and her snow suit! sadly we didn’t have a camera out so we have no photos, but take it from me, she looked fab!

The morning service was very long (2+ hours!) but was great. There were 4 people reaffirming their baptism vows by full immersion as well as the Easter communion service. The evening service was amazing as well, even before the service started I had a feeling that God was really going to work in our church that night. As we were setting up the mics and music stands I looked up to see the sun streaming through the stained glass window at the west end of church, it was a beautiful sight. Another member of the worship team was being baptised (though she didn’t want to be fully immersed) and another 2 were reaffirming their vows by full immersion. After this we were all given the chance of renewing our vows, about 8 of us went up and it was an amazing experience. I really felt that God was asking me to rededicate my life to him, to trust in his plans and timing and to work hard to spend more time with him (that’s not been very easy over the past few months, even when I now it makes a huge difference to how I feel and how my day goes). The feeling of God working in my and touching my life is just indescribable. After an inital filling of emotion, I was filled with a huge sense of calm, especially with regard to our plans for the future and trying for another baby (any regular readers will know I’ve been finding waiting incredibly hard lately). I know God has a plan for me and that at the moment it doesn’t include a baby but that one day he’ll make clear that the time if right for us again. The lovely friend who gave me a lift home said that she had seen in me that I had to go and reaffirm my vows and that afterwards she’d seen a change in my face, I was more relaxed and clearly calmer.

Since then I’ve just felt so at ease with what we need to do. I’ve spent more time with God and been more relaxed with what’s going on in the house, it’s still a tip, but I’m calm about it and know that I can sort it out. I really hope and pray that I can keep this change going.

I’m even more relaxed now about the potty training! We did have an accident all over the munchkin’s smart leather shoes on Sunday morning but that was the last wet one (so far!). I think poos may take a little more time. She’s holding them in unless she’s got pants on (pull ups don’t count apparently!) and even then she’s rather hold them in. She still doesn’t like the potty (or the toilet seat) but we’re doing ok as long as I keep asking her to sit down every so often. Going to stay with V on Thursday will be the first big test (closely followed by the 4 1/2 hour train trip to my parents next week).

Valentine’s has been postponed in the H household. We’ve exchanged presents (thank you for the flowers and mini bottle of Moet!), but Mr H has spent the day poorly in bed so my fabulous steak dinner (that’s what he’d planned to cook for me) has been postponed until Sunday. Mr H really isn’t up to anything, let alone standing in the kitchen or even going out to buy the steak so it’s down to me looking in the freezer for our dinner tonight.

The munchkin and I are going away tomorrow for my mini college reunion (I can’t believe it was a year since the last one). Due to Mr H’s work (tomorrow) and the fact that both he and I are on the rota at church for different things on Sunday morning I can only go for one night and I won’t get a toddler free break. Oh well. It’ll definitely be good to catch up with the girls. I’m back (hopefully! train service depending) at about 7 on Saturday.

I promised I will upload pictures from last weekend soon, I’m afaid they’re still sitting on the SD card in the camera! Also if anyone wants to help me work out how to put a little © and my name on the photos a la Chrisb (and others), I’d be very grateful (the photo software we have is Corel Photopaint).

…we’re getting better here.

The house is looking more normal (a couple of piles of junk around, but the dining table can be eaten from!). Mr H and I are still coughing at times but definitely feeling better most of the time. It’s not taking much to make us tired but we’re surviving.

The munchkin has been lovely, most of the time, this weekend. She’s taken to peeling the wallpaper from behind her cot again. We have no idea how to stop her. She gets told off but it seems to make little difference, she does it again the next morning/naptime. We’re trying to teach her to say sorry when she’s naughty, but she’s resisting that one. It doesn’t help that generally she’s a very good little lady (not that I’m complaining about that!) so I have little need to ask her to say sorry. I suppose we’ll get there one day like we did with saying please. It’ll just come and she’ll be able to say it when ever she needs to.

I did eventually get to read all the bloglines posts last week, however there were over 200 again this morning! I think I may need to reduce the number of blogs I read, it’s taking over a bit!

Hello! We’re finally emerging from the shadow of this virus. I’m going to do a bullet point update while I wait for the washing machine to finish.

  • All three of us have been poorly with this cold/virus
  • The munchkin’s temperature went up to 40.4 (104) on Sunday and wouldn’t come down
  • We ended up at the NHS walk in centre
  • Saw a nurse who couldn’t say anything so we had to wait even longer to see the out of hours GP
  • He just said it was a virus and to keep dosing her up with paracetamol and ibuprofen
  • Come Monday morning the munchkin was feeling a lot better and well on the way to normality
  • However that was my worst day and Mr H had to work from home as I couldn’t look after the munchkin on my own
  • I burst into tears when I couldn’t get a nappy out of the packet easily!
  • I’m still coughing but feeling much more human today
  • Mr H has been fighting to work each day as the new project is quite demanding and he has loads of meetings
  • It does mean he’s tired and a bit grumpy in the evenings when he gets home
  • Roll on the weekend and a chance for him to rest
  • Thanks to me being poorly the house is a tip, I’ve managed to keep on top of the washing and dishwasher but very little else
  • It’s going to take a while to get the house back to how I want it
  • I’d been gradually training myself to keep the house nice and I’ve only just realised how much I’d changed and how I now get annoyed by the mess
  • Having got out of the habit of sticking Cbeebies on the TV for most of the day this past week has blown that out of the window, the munchkin and I hve been too tired to do much more than cuddle up together in front of it
  • I’m not trying to put the radio on instead again
  • One success from the last week is that the munchkin no longer says ‘Da’ for please, but ‘Peas’
  • She’s very good at it now
  • I admit we did bribe her initially
  • She was given chocolate (a big treat) when she said it over the weekend
  • Since then she’s had almost anything she asked for (even a bath) if she says ‘Peas’
  • She’s not taken advantage of that though and only asked for things we’re happy to give her normally
  • The munchkin has even said ‘Peas’ when I asked her if I should change her nappy!
  • I haven’t looked at my bloglines for a week, I’m hoping that there’s not too many posts on there when I look when the munchkin naps
  • I’m hoping I’ll actually stop by and comment at a few
  • I know I’ve been fairly useless at that lately…..sorry
  • Just checked…I’ve got 363 posts to read! Argh!
  • Anyway, the washing’s done so I need to go
  • Happy Thursday everyone!

Well, the darling munchkin has decided to be generous and has shared her cold with her family.

I started with it on Wednesday afternoon and Mr H started to get the sore throat last night. We almost ended up with the munchkin in the doctors this morning when her temperature started to rise last night but it’s come down and she’s a lot perkier today. The headaches and sore throat I’ve had completely explain why she’s been so out of sorts and clingy.

We’ve had to revert to having CBeebies on much of the time as I haven’t got the energy to entertain the munchkin much, thankfully she doesn’t sit goggle-eyed in front of it but will watch a bit and then play or read a book for a while.

Hopefully over the weekend we’ll all get some rest and come to next week feeling more normal.
