Milestones

After staying in bed and sleeping well for the first two nights in her bed the munchkin was up for an hour in the middle of last night! I was not impressed! Mr H and I were late to bed so being up for so long was not pleasant. She didn’t come out of her room (she managed to close her door further rather than open it) but I could hear her moving around and chattering. I eventually put a CD on (she often has music playing when she goes to bed) and at 3:30 there was peace. I didn’t hear her again until Mr H’s alarm went off at 7:40 (actually it went off at 7:30 but I didn’t hear that one at all). She came in to us then for hugs.

Still, moving the munchkin to a bed has gone a lot better than it could have done. She’s not napped in her bed (too many distractions) but I’m hoping that will change (either that or we’ll be going for lots of walks after lunch to try and get her to sleep in her pushchair!)

I will try and get some photos of her new look room on here, but I’m not sure whether I can do that, her room is only 2m by 3m so I’m not sure I’ll be able to get much into view. If I do manage it please ignore the places on her wall where the little minx has been peeling the wallpaper off! In her defense it was put up very badly by the previous owners of the house and their DIY skills were definitely limited! She has stopped now afetr being told off several times, we just can’t redecorate it until the summer.

The other big news from the weekend is that I now have a laptop! Due to Mr H and I fighting over the computer in an evening we’ve been half thinking of it but dismissed it as too expensive (I want one I can play the Sims 2 on). However while shopping in Aldi on Saturday we saw they still had a Medion Akoya in stock for £499 with a three year warranty. After a bit of a discussion and me offering to put £100 into it (advance use of birthday money) and Mr H saying that £50 of it could be my birthday, Easter and Mothering Sunday presents we bought it! We hadn’t spent any of the Christmas money we were all given so that’s made up a lot of the rest. It’s going to be mainly mine but a family machine as well.

I’m still trying to get used to it. It’s running Vista and I’ve not used that before so there’s a couple of differences to get used to, but generally I’m very pleased. We’ve not set up the netwprk drives and printer on it yet, but Mr H will do that soon (he’s already spent the whole weekend tweaking the set up of it and changing the hard drive partitioning).

I’ve got to disappear and get more of the housework done now but I’ll be back later sitting on teh sofa with my shiny new laptop to catch up on your blogs (I hope!). Bye!

Good morning! Just a quick update from the H household as I’ve got a lot to do today.

Firstly thanks for the lovely comments left on my last post. It was something I just had to get out somewhere and Mr H wasn’t due home for a while. Dad’s ok, he hasn’t had another TIA since, though Mum thinks he may have had a couple before. I still don’t know whether my uncle has managed to keep his house, my gran spent 2 days travelling into the city she lives near to try and lend him the money but as of yesterday afternoon she didn’t know whether it will have been enough.

My big job for today is to dismantle the munchkin’s cot and rearrange her little room to fit her big girl bed in. We’re hoping to start potty training her in the next month or so and there’s more chance of managing nights as well if she can get up to the potty if she needs to. She was starting to use her cot as a trampoline as well and it was only a matter of time before she launched herself out of the cot as she bounced.

I’m hoping to keep the munchkin downstairs as I do this so that Mr H can be here this evening when she sees her new bed, I’m not sure I’ll be able to manage that but I’ll definitely try!

In addition to that we have the usual toddler group this afternoon and then the munchkin and I are going to walk into town to do some shopping. Well I’ll walk, she’ll sit in our new (well, new to us) pushchair. We’ve got it from the local freecycle group. It’s a Jane Carrera C, offered as being broken but possibly mendable. Well Mr H has mended it (he’s replaced a broken rivet with a bolt), the walk today is to test out the mend. It’s the old version of one we were considering buying to replace the pushchair that was broken on the flight at Christmas.

Well, I’ve spent more time typing here than I was planning to, I need to make a start on the munchkin’s room. Bye!

I was hoping to find time to blog before this, but no chance. I’ve been so busy! Tidying, cooking, cleaning, entertaining the rellies plus trying to keep the munchkin calm amid the chaos. Her baptism service was really nice, the vicar was lovely, everyone arrived and got home safely and lots of food was eaten. Thanks Carmelo for the idea of veg sticks and dips….they went down really well. The munchkin’s cake was slightly stressful as it didn’t rise much though it was very light and tasty, a bit of umming and ahing over how to decorate it and it went immediately….has given me a bit of a bug for cake decorating though…..will have to make another one soon….next excuse for a cake I can come up with is Valentines…hmmm….sorry sidetracking…

Somehow it didn’t seem too crowded with 17 of us here on Sunday, we just seemed to spread out around the kitchen and living room. At least we knlow we can do it again should we need to.

We had a great night out with Mr H’s family on Saturday while L babysat for us. It was really nice to get to know J’s fiancee a bit better and to spend time with the family, we haven’t had a get-together since Christmas over 2 years ago. We see my family a lot, but the distance betwen north scotland and the south west of England is a long way, we’ll see them all again for J and S’s wedding though in April.

My challenge now is to keep the house as tidy as we made it for Sunday, managing ok so far (but have had Mum here to stay until this morning and she’s helped a lot). I really hope I can do it, it’s much nicer living in a tidy organised house rather than our usual piles of chaos.

It’s only taken me a couple of hours to work out how to do this! Apologies for the awful filming (and the angle!) I didn’t think that I wouldn’t be able to rotate the video once it was filmed. I hope this works! You might want to turn your sound off….Mr H is getting a tad repetitive on it!

The munchkin took her first proper steps around the kitchen earlier! So chuffed! Admittedly she was trying to get at the dishwasher as Mr H was emptying it….but still.

We’ve also discovered the reason for the waking last night, madam has a molar coming through. I gave her some calpol after her nap which helped sooth her (she woke in such a paddy) and she’s just been put down to sleep with some infant Nurofen so hopefully we’ll have a better night.

We spent the whole weekend traipsing around trying to find a stockist of the trailer we wanted, we eventually managed it in Fulham yesterday having spent Saturday visiting lots of bike shops within a 1 1/2 mile radius of Cambridge centre (we missed out the ones that we knew were too small to stock a trailer). The trailer is huge, but will be very stable and has lots of space for luggage. The next step is to order it online so we can finally get on the move and I can have a social life again! Yay! It was an exhausting weekend, but knowing we achieved something makes it a bit more worthwhile.

We’re having fun and games with the munchkin now, as well as crawling she’s on her feet and cruising everywhere. She’s also started taking steps when we hold her hands, I don’t think it’ll be too much longer before she’s walking properly.

Anyway, once again as soon as I start blogging she’s woken up from her nap, so I’ll be off now. Bye!

We’re all starting to feel better in the H household now……thank goodness.

The munchkin is getting more life back into her, she’s getting her grins back and is back trying to get into everything. It’s so good seeing her smiles and helps me feel better too.

I’m feeling much better too. Sadly, the tummy bug has caused my IBS to flare up, which is fun in the mornings, but hopefully that’ll ease again soon.

I’m looking forward to going up to my parents tomorrow, the journey will be interesting with the temperatures we’ve been having, but we’ll just have to cope. Hopefully we’ll be able to get the seat with space for the munchkin’s pushchair on the mainline train, but I’m not really holding out much hope, we’re not getting on at the start of the route, so I suspect that someone who just wants to spread out will have it. We’ll just have to be in the doorways, it’s the only other space that the pushchair will fit in. It’ll be great to see the girls again, we’re going out for dinner tomorrow and meeting R (the one going to the US) for brunch on Wednesday before getting the train home. I can’t believe we’re travelling ~200 miles (each way!) in temperatures exceeding 30oC for one night…..I think I’m mad!

The wasp guy from the council arrived this morning…he couldn’t find a nest where we thought we had one, but there was possibly one round the corner in the roof. He’s treated all spaces where a nest could be situated and we haven’t seen any wasps since, so hopefully they’re gone. He thought the wasps may have been going into the outlet pipe from the toilet for a drink! They then may have got lost and somehow got into the bathroom from there….no idea how! Hopefully Mr H will polyfilla all around the pipes in the next few days to eliminate the chance of the evil beings getting in again.

We did have a highlight today….the munchkin pulled herself up on the settee and cruised along to try and get at the laptop!!! I was so proud of her, I was talking to mum on the phone at that point and just squealed . She could only do it because the airbed was next to the settee, she’s too small to be able to reach the settee otherwise. It’s only the past week or so that the munchkin has been willing to take any weight on her legs so I really didn’t expect to see that today. I’m so pleased! I managed to get a quick photo of her standing there before she sat back down so Mr H could see it as he was still at work. It was another sign of the munchkin getting better. Even yesterday morning there were times when all she wanted to do was just lie and watch the world go by.

I need to go and get some sleep, need all the rest I can get before tomorrow’s journey. Bye!
