[in response to a couple of comments, flying visit before I go and clean the car before my mother sees the inside and has a fit!]
…..well…..
How about ‘God’s own county’? Or the area of the ‘dark satanic mills’? Or the ‘right’ side of the Pennines
Though the other side aren’t all that bad, that’s where my gran is from!

I drew a picture of this before… I shall do it again for you. Are you ready, are you, are you?

Please don’t be offended by the picture as I have condemned almost everyone as being northern (that’s what you get from practically living in France).
I really dislike it up here, partly because I’m so far away from my family but also because of the distance from MY moors and beaches. The unfamiliarity of the mill towns and whatnot make me really miserable on a bad day. Even my beloved countryside is different here: not as many big deciduous woods (a lot of the lake distric in particular seems to be evergreen :s), walls instead of hedges everywhere, gloomy darkness in some part of every moor vista, cold beaches (even in August), stuffy heat in the summer. I miss my wide, verdant moors, the intense sun with a fresh breeze etc.. but I’ve come to realise that 1) there’s no place like home 2) Devon is well renowned for being sunny and gorgeous. And I just miss the SEA SEA SEA SEA SEA SEA!!! I’m such a mermaid. I think I was spoilt as I DO come from a lovely neck of the woods (see my pictures here: http://frolickingthroughlife.blogspot.com/2007/07/devon.html )
I will leave you with the thing my parents said on their first trip up here: “but we thought northerners were supposed to be … well … friendly and hospitable?”
Ah I got all long winded and incoherent – but that’s because it’s been a long week and now I’m HOME SICK
boo hoo
